Dies ist Berlin: Schwarz is a poetic short documentary capturing fragments of daily life inside and outside a dementia clinic in Berlin. Shot entirely on a mobile phone, the film centers on a German man with dementia, whose repeated word “schwarz” (“black”) becomes a haunting refrain. Contrasting the quiet repetition within the clinic with the restless rhythm of the city, the work reflects on isolation, care, and the fragile boundary between personal and collective memory.
Dies ist Berlin: Vole is a short documentary sketch born from the filmmaker’s wish to get to know Wolfgang (called “Vole”). Once an expatriate who spent over twenty years in Spain, Wolfgang now lives in a dementia clinic in Berlin. His fading memory keeps returning to the warmth of the sun, to Spain, and to the question of when he will receive his weekly allowance. Filmed entirely on a mobile phone and narrated in Spanish, the film quietly observes him, capturing moments where memory drifts between presence and absence.
